CALL FOR TUTORIAL PROPOSALS
The ECCB program committee invites proposals for one-day Tutorials, to be held on Saturday , which will immediately precede the seventeenth European Conference on Computational Biology in Athens, Greece.
The purpose of the tutorial program is to provide participants with lectures and hands-on training covering topics relevant to the field of bioinformatics. Each tutorial will offer participants an opportunity to learn about new areas of bioinformatics research, to get an introduction to important established topics, or to develop advanced skills in areas they are already familiar with.
This call is an invitation for scientists and professionals working in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology to submit proposals for high quality tutorials for ECCB. Previous tutorials have covered topics including:
- Analysis of Cis-Regulatory Motifs from High-Throughput Sequence Sets
- Computational Tools to Define and Analyse Logical Models of Cellular Networks
- IMGT, the Global Refence in Immunogenetics and Immunoinformatics
- Multivariate Projection Methodologies for Big Data and Application in R Using the mixOmics Package
- Protein Evolution Analysis: on the Use of Phylogenetic Trees
- Reuse, Develop and Share Biological Visualisation with BioJS
- Scientific Workflows for Analysing, Integrating and Scaling Bioinformatics Data: a Practical Introduction to Galaxy, Taverna and WS-PGRADE
- Statistics and Numerics for Dynamical Modeling
- TADbit: Automated Analysis and Three-Dimensional Modeling of Genomic Domains
Tutorials are scheduled either on Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00, with two half-hour coffee breaks and a one-hour lunch break.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
Proposal SubmissionTutorial proposals should not exceed 4 pages, and must include:
- a detailed description of the tutorial (title and abstract, giving the motivation, expected goals, and level);
- provisional schedule;
- intended audience and possible prerequisites;
- material or infrastructure required (if relevant);
- a brief CV of the instructor(s) showing their relevant qualifications and teaching experience;
- contact information for the organizer.
A maximum of two presenters per tutorial is recommended.
An evaluation committee will consider the following criteria in assessing proposals: relevance to ECCB attendees, educational experience of the lecturers, effectiveness and completeness of the proposed approach, as well as the overall clarity and quality of the proposal.
Please note that tutorial attendees often consider the presenters’ reputations and standing when choosing particular sessions. It is consequently expected that the presenters listed on the submitted proposal will present their tutorials in person.
Please save proposals in PDF format and send to: workshop-tutorial@eccb18.org
LOGISTICS
Tutorials will take place on September on the site of the main conference. ECCB will help in the administrative aspects of assigning the rooms, making announcements, and publishing the detailed tutorial schedule in the conference program. Each tutorial will be provided with up to two free tutorial registrations for speakers.
The tutorial registration fees can be found below and will be used to cover costs for the room, coffee breaks, lunch, a PC and projector. Organizers should provide slides and possible reference material in PDF format.
Slides and reference material for the tutorials should be made available for download from each tutorial web page. The organizers can create their own web page with links to these documents. If, however, they want the documents to be downloaded from the ECCB website itself they should send a unique assembled pdf file to workshop-tutorial@eccb18.org before July 31st, 2026. Tutorial organizers are expected to operate within the context of ECCB procedures, including finalizing the program and providing materials by the deadlines. ECCB reserves the right to cancel a scheduled tutorial if, by one month before the conference, its number of registered participants is less than 10.
